LAKEVIEW HOUSE

CALGARY ALBERTA

CLIENT – PRIVATE
DATE – Q2 2014 – Q4 2014
BUDGET – UNDISCLOSED
PHASE – SCHEMATIC DESIGN

The residence located in south Calgary’s Lakeview community was the execution of the rational design process in efforts to both formulate a critical design position with regard to site and programme, while also exploring the limitations of morphing stylistic preferences.

The site is complex in shape as well as its orientation to public and private spaces. The site study revealed the necessity to locate the building footprint at the narrow end of the site, while programmatic requirements exceeded a conventional allotment of plan within this footprint. As such, unconventional spatial arrangements were required.

To further enrich the study, a traditional building language was the stated starting point for the project. Through the project’s development, a reinterpretation of those forms was necessary, permitting a hybridization of language. The resultant building form reconciled the conflicting forces upon the project.
